Starting June 18th, the IOS launched the third annual Techno workshop for aspiring technopreneurs — current and recent science and engineering students interested in creating innovative solutions to today’s pressing problems, and to make these solutions available in society. During the month-long workshop, teams of young scientists and engineers were taught the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and applied these lessons in a hands-on environment to translate their scientific discoveries into products and services. The highly successful inaugural Techno2010 culminated in the formation of 10 new companies and last years’ Techno2011 created an additional 10.
We have had quite an exciting few weeks this summer. 32 individuals ranging from undergrads, grad students, and post-docs participated in our third annual entrepreneurship workshop. Teams from physics, chemistry, computer science, biomedical engineering, and many other academic backgrounds came with solutions to autism treatment, medical imaging and image processing, tinnitus, and many more. Watch out for more information on each of the teams and their technologies. Finally, thanks to all of the guest speakers for sharing their experience and expertise, mentors for working with our teams to make sure they are off to a running start, the participants for putting in the long hours of work and for being a pleasure to work with, and of course the IOS staff for bringing it all together to make Techno2012 a success.
